Entre 2016 et 2018, un carton d'archives anciennes de la communauté de Chandolin a disparu au clocher de l'église.
Avant 2016, les paroisses d'Anniviers ont fait l'objet d'inventaires de leurs biens et objets. A Chandolin, plusieurs cartons d'archives publiques antérieures à 1950 (paroisse, bourgeoisie-commune) ont été recensés. Sur la base des inventaires d'archives existants auprès de la bourgeoisie, le détail des documents qui y sont contenus ainsi que leurs résumés sont connus. En 2016, des photographies sélectives de ces documents ont aussi été réalisées. Malheureusement, aucun double numérique n'existe pour les autres !
/ Stockage au clocher
Entièrement bâti en pierre entre 1884 et 1888, le clocher de l'église de Chandolin a tout de suite offert un lieu sécurisé face aux incendies pour la conservation des archives du village.
Qui plus est, l'église est à l'écart de la zone construite et la ventilation du beffroi naturelle limite l'apparition de moisissures.
Depuis cet évènement, les serrures ont été changées et bourgeoisie et paroisse étudient la possibilité d'ouvrir un fond spécifique auprès des archives cantonales afin de sécuriser et rendre ces documents facilement accessibles à tous.
/ Utilité
Malgré le caractère ancien des parchemins, leur valeur matérielle demeure très faible. En revanche, leur contenu est une source d'information considérable pour améliorer nos connaissance sur l'histoire de ce petit village dans la montagne. Pour s'en convaincre, il suffit de parcourir les 3 tomes d'Erasme Zufferey sur l'histoire de la vallée d'Anniviers, de ses villages, de ses institutions ... Cela aurait été tout simplement impossible sans ces archives.

Mais il ne faut pas croire que tout a été dit ! De nouvelles découvertes archéologiques et des capacités de recherches décuplées par l'informatique permettent encore de compléter le corpus de connaissances, voire de changer l'histoire locale ou de faire passer certaines légendes à la réalité.
